Scuttling of Ex HMAS Adelaide

NSW Central Coast, 13th April 2011

Dedicated as always to Jessica Anne Lincoln Smith, 1983-2009, who loved dolphins and the sea.

After years of preparation and a final delay of just over an hour while dolphins fed nearby, the ex HMAS Adelaide, a Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7) class frigate, was scuttled about 1.8 KM off Avoca Beach on the NSW Central Coast to become a recreational dive site and artifical reef

All these photos were taken from near the middle of Avoca Beach using a Nikon D700, a Nikkor 70-200mm VRII lens and a TC20E-III teleconverter mounted on a tripod. All were shot at 1/500th of a second at f8 and ISO 800. As this lens (an effective 400mm) was not really long enough for the job, they are cropped rather than resized.
